FFXIV Best Jobs for Casual Players: Tier List & Easy Picks

Final Fantasy XIV Casual Jobs Tier List

If you’re a casual player with limited time to play Final Fantasy XIV, choosing the right job can make all the difference in your experience. Some jobs are more forgiving, require less memorization, and allow you to jump in and have fun without feeling overwhelmed. Whether you have an hour a day or just a few sessions a week, this tier list will help you find the best job for your playstyle.

As you can see, I broke it down to tanks in the S tier because you should almost always get instant queues for everything.  Healers in the A tiers, as mostly instant queues but not quite as much as tanks sometimes.  After all, we're all here because we don't have a lot of time to waste.  DPS are all below based on how much time it takes to master their rotation, you will most likely sit in queue for most stuff, unless you have a friend or 2 that can tank or heal.

S+ Tier – Best of the Best for Casual Play

These jobs are incredibly strong, easy to pick up, and provide a great balance of survivability and impact in all types of content.

  • Warrior – The king of sustain, Warrior has an incredibly simple rotation, self-healing that makes solo content a breeze, and an easy way to contribute in group play.

  • Paladin – A tank with strong defensive skills, an easy-to-use rotation, and the ability to heal itself and others when needed. Fantastic for all content types.

S Tier – Strong and Reliable

Great choices for casual players who want power without too much complexity.

  • Dark Knight – A bit more technical than Warrior and Paladin but still forgiving with great defensive cooldowns.  Not recommended much, unless you love the aesthetic.  Needs a big rework imo.

  • Gunbreaker – More fast-paced but very rewarding, Gunbreaker has a fun rotation that still works well for casual players.

A+ Tier – Simple and Effective Healers

If you prefer to support your team, these jobs are great options.

  • White Mage – The easiest healer to pick up, with powerful healing spells and straightforward mechanics.

  • Scholar – A bit more technical, but great healing power combined with a healing pet to assist you.

A Tier – Still Great but Requires a Bit More Attention

These jobs are strong but may require a bit more awareness or learning.

  • Astrologian – A flexible healer but requires card management, which adds an extra layer of complexity.

  • Sage – A proactive healer that rewards good planning but isn’t too difficult once learned.  Lot's and lots of buttons, but once mastered it's great to have so many options.

B Tier – Fun but Requires More Effort

These jobs are viable but need a little more dedication.

  • Summoner – One of the simplest DPS options with a fun pet mechanic and flashy spells.

  • Bard – A mobile ranged DPS that supports the party with buffs.

  • Machinist – A straightforward physical ranged DPS with an easy-to-learn playstyle.

  • Samurai – High damage melee DPS but requires knowledge of its combos.

  • Dancer – Simple mechanics with a support-oriented playstyle.

C Tier – Playable but Less Beginner-Friendly

These jobs are fun but may require more precise execution.

  • Bard – A mobile ranged DPS that supports the party with buffs.  Not extremely complex, but requires a bit of knowledge and memory for the different buffs.

  • Samurai – High damage melee DPS but requires knowledge of its combos.

  • Dragoon – A hard-hitting melee DPS but has strict positioning requirements.

  • Monk – Very fast-paced with positional attacks that can be tricky for casual players.

  • Red Mage – Has a great balance of melee and ranged abilities but requires careful resource management.

  • Reaper – Flashy and fun but has a bit more complexity compared to Samurai.

  • Dancer – Simple mechanics with a support-oriented playstyle.  It's generally easy, but the combos are weird, as there is no straight forward combo, it's all proc oriented.  It can be played by basically pressing whatever lights up.

  • Viper – Requires combo mastery, making it harder for casual play.

  • Pictomancer – A unique job with more mechanics to track than simpler options.

D Tier – Most Difficult for Casual Play

These jobs are powerful but require precise timing and execution.

  • Black Mage – Extremely powerful but demands standing still and perfect positioning.

  • Ninja – High burst damage but requires memorizing complex button sequences.

Final Thoughts

Ultimately, any job in FFXIV can be played casually, but some are more beginner-friendly and less punishing when you don’t have as much time to practice. If you’re looking for the easiest and best casual-friendly jobs, Warrior, Paladin, and White Mage are fantastic choices to start with. No matter what you choose, the most important thing is to have fun and play at your own pace!
