FFXIV Dawntrail 7.1 Gathering Scrip Farming Guide: Best Collectible Fishing Spots & Mount Tokens

FFXIV Dawntrail 7.1 Gathering Scrip Farming Guide: Best Collectible Fishing Spots & Mount Tokens

** Gathering timer and tracker coming soon - please look forward to it **

Gathering scrips in Final Fantasy XIV is an essential part of progressing as a Disciple of the Land, especially in Patch 7.1 of Dawntrail. Whether you're aiming for rare materials, crafting gear, or the highly coveted mount requiring 100 mount tokens, farming gathering scrips efficiently can save you a lot of time. This guide will focus on collectible fishing as one of the best ways to farm scrips and optimize your efforts.

In my experience, Gathering Fish is the easiest, most efficient, and more fun way of farming scrips. So I've included a guide of the best fish to go after in a rotation, with a potential of 5000 scrips per hour!!

Why Farm Gathering Scrips?

  • Exchange for rare crafting materials and gear.
  • Unlock special gathering perks and tools.
  • Obtain unique mounts, including the 100-token mount.
  • Boost your gathering professions for profit-making opportunities.

Best Collectible Fish for Gathering Scrips

In Patch 7.1, the following fish are the most efficient for gathering scrips:

1. Yellow Peacock Bass

  • Location: Kozama'uka Hole in Marsh Ligaka (X:25, Y:31)
  • Bait: Golden Stonefly Nymph
  • Optimal Time/Weather: 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM Eorzean Time, Any Weather
  • Abilities Needed: Patience II, Hookset (Precision Hookset), Prize Catch when applicable
  • Scrip Yield: 500 (Maximum Collectability Yield)
  • You're going to use (!) to catch Dumpling Fish and store them as bait. Arrive very early as it's only a 1-hour in-game window, and you want to have 3 stored. Then use the Dumpling Fish as bait. If you don't have Patience II up, you need Prize Catch and Big Game Fishing for each cast. It's close to a 20-second tug. I've found this one to be fairly difficult to get lucky with, but at 500 scrips, it's worth it. Don't forget to have collectability on!

2. Chain Shark

  • Location: Xty'iinbek Tsoly in Yak T'el (X:37.7, Y:25.2)
  • Bait: Ghost Nippers --> Sharknose Goby (!) Mooch --> Yak'tel Crab (!!) Store as Bait
  • Optimal Time/Weather: 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Eorzean Time, Any Weather
  • Abilities Needed: Patience II, Hookset (Powerful Hookset), Prize Catch if available
  • Scrip Yield: 1000 (Maximum Collectability Yield)
  • Again, arrive early, ideally between 2:00-3:00. This is the big one! When casting back out with Sharknose Goby, if it's a (!), it is most likely another Sharknose Goby. So once you get one, you can keep mooching until you get your crab. Just like Yellow Peacock Bass, if Patience II is not up, you need Prize Catch and Big Game Fishing. Make sure to select Yak'tel Crab as your bait, and don't forget to turn on Collectability! It is a 20-second tug (!!). You will have windows where you are not successful, but you'll have enough where you are that make it more than worth it for 1000 scrips!

3. Urqofrog

  • Location: Xty'iinbek Tsoly in Yak T'el (X:37, Y:25)

  • Bait: Red Maggots

  • Optimal Time/Weather: 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM Eorzean Time, Any Weather

  • Abilities Needed:  Prize Catch, Modest Lure

  • Scrip Yield: 60 (Maximum Collectability Yield)

  • Use Prize Catch, Cast, Use Modest Lure 2-3 times. If you do NOT see the message, use Rest, cast back out, and use Modest Lure three times again until you see the message. If you see the message, "A bulbous head appears on the water's surface!" then wait to catch.

4. Wivre Cod

  • Location: Iq Rrax Tsoly Depths in Yak T'el (X:31, Y:7)
  • Bait: Spear Fishing
  • Optimal Time/Weather:
  • Abilities Needed: Nature's Bounty, Gig
  • Scrip Yield:  45 (Maximum Collectability Yield)

5. Copper Sharks

  • Location: Kozama'uka Hole in Marsh Ligaka (X:25, Y:31)

  • Bait: Ghost Nippers

  • Optimal Time/Weather: Clouds/Fog

  • Abilities Needed: Prize Catch, !! Ambitious Lure

  • Scrip Yield: 156 Maximum Collectability Yield

  • Use Ambitious Lure until you get "A gentle giant stirs beneath the water!" pop up on your screen; this means that there is a chance that Copper Shark might bite. Whenever that text pops up, stop using Ambitious Lure and let the fish bite. If it's a !! bite, then use hook to reel the fish in (which will be Copper Shark, if Forgotten One is slapped).

After you catch your first Copper Shark, cast back out and use Ambitious Lure 3x again like before - this time, waiting to see what fish bites regardless of if the special message ("A gentle giant stirs beneath the water!") appears or not.

If it is a !! bite, use hook to catch it - and if it's a Forgotten One, then use Surface Slap and Prize Catch, then cast out like and use Ambitious Lure again until you get the message.

If it is a ! bite, use Rest to reel in quickly, then cast back out and use Ambitious Lure again like before until a !! bite shows up.

For real-time tracking of these fish, use the FFXIV Fish Tracker App, which provides up-to-date spawn times and optimal fishing conditions.

Best Strategies for Efficient Scrip Farming

  1. Use the Right Bait & Gear: Equip the best available gathering gear and make sure you are using the optimal bait for each fish.
  2. Fish in Optimal Conditions: Some fish only appear under specific weather conditions or times, maximizing your efficiency.
  3. Use Proper Abilities: Utilize Patience II to increase fish size, Prize Catch to guarantee high collectability, and Big Game Fishing when needed.
  4. Rotate Between Locations: If a specific fish is unavailable, move to another spot to keep farming without downtime.
  5. Use Cordials & Buffs: Increase your gathering stats to maximize yield and ensure successful catches.

Where to Exchange Scrips for Mount Tokens

Gathering scrips can be exchanged at the following locations:

  • Old Sharlayan - Scrip Exchange NPC near The Studium
  • Radz-at-Han - Scrip Exchange NPC in the Bazaar
  • Crystarium - Scrip Exchange NPC in the Marketplace

Stay tuned for updates as more efficient methods emerge with Patch 7.1!

FFXIV Eureka Orthos Guide (Patch 7.1) – Best Strategies, Dangerous Mobs & Boss Tips

Eureka Orthos Guide ** Updated 2/17/24 ** Introduction      Eureka Orthos is a Deep Dungeon in FFXIV, similar to Palace of the Dead and Heaven-on-High. It features randomly generated floors, unique mechanics, and a progression system that resets each run. This guide will help casual players efficiently navigate Eureka Orthos, covering strategies, dangerous enemies, and useful Pomander usage.     What's great about Deep Dungeons is there is a 1 hour time limit, which fits perfect in our 1 hour playtime theme.  Earlier floors can be done well within this, 20-30 minutes for some.  But it's a guarantee to be able to get through one in a night, sometimes 2 sets of floors, so it's easy to make progress through out a week.  ** Work in Progress -- expanded information soon** Basics of Eureka Orthos Protomanders & Demiclones Managing Protomanders effectively can determine the success of your run.
